How Employers Can Reclaim Statutory Neonatal Care Pay

Navigating statutory payments can be tricky for employers, especially with the introduction of new types like Statutory Neonatal Care Pay (SNCP). At Givver, we’re here to make the process simple by handling the entire reclaim process for you. Here’s what you need to know about SNCP and how we make it hassle-free.

What Is Statutory Neonatal Care Pay (SNCP)?

Statutory Neonatal Care Pay (SNCP) is designed to support employees whose babies require neonatal care. It’s one of several statutory payments that employers can reclaim, helping to reduce the financial impact on your business. This is particularly important for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), including those with up to 700 employees or fewer, where managing payroll and statutory payments can become complex.

How Much Can Employers Reclaim?

As an employer, you can usually reclaim 92% of your employee’s Statutory Neonatal Care Pay, as well as other statutory payments such as Maternity, Paternity, Adoption, Parental Bereavement, and Shared Parental Pay. If your business qualifies for Small Employers’ Relief, you can reclaim 108.5% of the statutory pay. You are eligible for this relief if you paid £45,000 or less in Class 1 National Insurance (excluding reductions like Employment Allowance) in the last complete tax year before the relevant qualifying period.

Identifying the Relevant Week

The relevant week for calculating SNCP may vary depending on the circumstances:

  • If the employee is also entitled to Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP), Paternity Pay (SPP), or Adoption Pay (SAP), the relevant week for SNCP aligns with that of the other statutory pay.

  • In the case of Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP), the relevant week is the 15th week (Sunday to Saturday) before the week of the child’s due date.

  • For Statutory Adoption Pay (SAP), the relevant week is the week (Sunday to Saturday) when the employee was told they’d been matched with a child by the adoption agency.

  • If the adoption is from another country, the relevant week is the date on the official notification.

  • For Statutory Parental Bereavement Pay, the relevant week is the week (Sunday to Saturday) before the death of the child or stillbirth.

  • If the employee is not entitled to SMP, SPP, or SAP, the relevant week is the week before the one in which the child entered neonatal care.

How to Reclaim SNCP

Reclaiming SNCP involves a few steps, but Givver takes care of it for you. Our software automatically calculates the amount you’re eligible to reclaim and submits the claim on your behalf. Here’s how it works:

  1. Calculation: Our software accurately calculates your reclaimable amount using your payroll data.

  2. Submission: We automatically report it to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) through an Employer Payment Summary (EPS). You can find more information and submit your EPS directly through the HMRC website.
