Can employees choose their own pension provider?
👤 An employee has requested that their pension contributions go to a different provider that we’re not currently set up with. Is it feasible to accommodate this for a single employee?
🧠 While it is possible to direct contributions to a different provider, it’s often not recommended due to the complexity involved. Setting up a separate pension scheme for one employee can lead to additional setup costs and extra admin fees.
Additionally, this could set a precedent, leading other employees to request similar arrangements.
It’s usually best to offer a single pension scheme for all employees and let employees decide whether to opt out should they wish to set up their own personal pension plan. However, if you decide to establish a separate one, remember it must be an auto-enrolment scheme.
